This was chilling and powerful... I love the way you tied Sam being a scientist into this, and the take that Jim (adorable pestilent genius Jim) was wanted by Kodos for being "superior" when so often it seems like he's marked to die in Tarsus fic.

Jesus Christ, this is wonderful! Sweet and sad and bitter, and good lord, just awesome. Straight up scenery porn and I lovelovelove the relationships as you present them. And also the characters. And pretty much everything about the fic.

I haven't even read this yet, just wanted you to know that there was an amazing about of squee and flailing that went on upon seeing this update. More later.

Oh goodness, you just beat with a large, splintered wooden spoon, didn't you? That was gut-wrenching and beautiful in one. So many fics have Sam leaving and abandoning Jim, this was so nice to read. It makes me wonder if Jim will hate Winona now after this, too.

Winona shows up later, and I'm actually pretty excited about fleshing her out. So far she's been an ambiguous, off-screen presence.
