writer!fail and other plaintive vocalizations

Here is the situation: I posted part two of This is Home July 26 2010, which means - to my absolute fucking horror - that it will have been an entire goddamn YEAR between updates if I don't get part three up soon.

I've always known I write at the pace of a snail on Thorazine, but oh god. A year. Part three stands at 5K at the moment and it's ( Read more... )

I did actually turn off my Internet. It was both deeply traumatic and very productive.

WHAT YOU HEAR IS ALCOHOLISM.

For the record, I have been sporadically checking your journal for a year (I used to go by endorsements) and I'm sure I'm not the only one! As long as you post it to the relevant comms, I'm sure people will see it and think "oh, that one!" and get back into it all over again c:

If it helps, I also will wander over here every once in a while to see if you have updated. It is so fabulous. Please don't stop based on it being so long between updates.

Yes, I write for myself - if you're in fandom long enough you realize that the fics you want to read the most are the ones you're going to have to write yourself - but I like writing for other people, too. Writing for an audience of one is sad!face

I hear you on all of this. I don't have any advice, because I've run into this crisis multiple times in a big way and I still don't know how to deal with it.

The irony of the situation really struck me. I have been revisiting some of my favorite Star Trek stories and just finished reading Parts 1 and 2 of This is Home. I came to your LJ to see if I had missed any other parts to the story.

When I read this particular posting of yours, I had to comment. I guess I am here to confirm that there are people out here that "[want] to read the damn thing."

I want to reassure you that it was not only the comedy of the first two parts that made me love your story, but also the need to find out what it is that keeps bringing Jim back to Tarsus at the particular time in his life. That part of your story just pulls the emotions out of your reader, making them feel things right along with Jim. For that alone - although, you are incredibly talented with the funny parts too - I'll keep coming back to that story.

Good luck with your writing. People like me will be waiting to read more when it is done.
