Light. Chaos. Noise. It was hard to entirely make it all out, particularly from Fuu's position. She wasn't about to get any closer; she did, in truth, have much more common sense than Lois Lane. The darkness also impeded things, making her unable to make out faces ( ... )

Poor Michaels. All he was really guilty of in at least one persons eye was having something he rather wanted. ... To be honest, that was all the monster really needed to attack by this point, seeing as everyone else was having such a time of it. He'd seen quite enough. The man wasn't anything special.

It was all that lovely shard in his arm.

There wouldn't even be a warning. The only sound was a dry crackle that sounded almost like a plug shorting out, before something shot out of the clustered branches of a tree. What was it? Hard to tell, it was gone the second it struck Michaels body, but what it was intended for all too horrifyingly clear.

The attacked man let out a bloodcurdling shriek as with the sickening sound of flesh tearing and bone breaking, that arm was sheared right off. Well, the important arm anyway. The grisly thing wouldn't even be allowed to hit the ground. A sharp, short, high pitched noise, and the arm was snatched up by a man who had seemed to appear out of thin air.

"Well that was easy!"

. . . Perhaps it was better for the sake of this moment that Fuu was blind. The shriek of Michaels churned her insides, twisted them sharply and flung them against her stomach wall ( ... )

It happened fast. He registered the torn arm first, blood gushing out, and for a brief moment had to wonder if he'd missed in his attack and knocked the guy's arm off instead. But no, his hand was embedded right where he'd aimed it. He stood stunned, only moving when Michaels pulled back; he yanked his hand back, whirling to stare at the newcomer that that voice belonged to.

"Who the h..." He squinted, frowned. Ling was bugging him, much as he didn't want to take the time to deal with him just now. But what he told him only widened his eyes even further than before.

The shard had to be in that arm.

His attention came into sharp focus on Xellos, everyone else present more or less forgotten. His goal was now much more narrowed down. He took a heavy step forward. He was in no mood to play games today.

"That's mine."

Shannon watched at a distance, having not moved from where Felix had left him.

And he was disturbed. Beyond disturbed.

The scene that had unfolded before him was...hideous. That guy had ripped off someone's arm! And now the kid, challenging him for it! It was an arm! How was this even happening? Shannon likely would have run off screaming if he had the courage or the means to make his way home. Having neither, he was forced to wait - and watch. And stare bug-eyed.

Ripped was a vicious word. Xellos would probably have preferred to call it "amputated". Much neater!

He didn't even pay attention to the man writhing on the ground, simply taking up his place in the air, hovering leisurely as he held onto the arm like it was a prize fish. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that there were indeed other people here, he would have left a long, long time ago. There were times and places that an audience was really just the thing he wanted.

Now... was one of them.

The smile on his face almost seemed warped, as sweet and warm as it was. Well, considering what the man had just done. The other hand moved to slide the wire rimmed glasses back into place, and he shrugged casually.

"I'll hand it over in a second! Just as soon as I get what I need from it~" He spoke so casually, in a friendly, conversational tone. As if this was nothing to him.

Felix might be blocking out the screaming, but it was very much on Fuu's mind. She twisted, backing away, her hands behind her to prevent herself from running into a tree.

"What the fuck is going on?" Never mind the pain or annoyance in the other's voice; she couldn't care less. He wasn't the one who was blind with a convict screaming. (Because if a man charged with aggravated assault and robbery who had attempted to take her hostage was screaming, how much worse was the thing causing him to scream?)

For the first -- and perhaps the only -- time, she was with Shannon on this.

This was all wrong. He could have been moments from claiming that shard, when this guy showed up out of the blue and just snatched it. Then he had the nerve to be so cocky about it. This should have been the other way around, if anything. That alone was enough to greatly piss him off, then add to that the fact that he'd taken something that belonged to him... he may have returned that carefree banter on any other occasion, but not now.

Despite his growing rage, he somehow gathered himself, standing up straight and calm, if a little stiff. The convict's screams may as well have been some birds chirping in the trees for all the attention he gave it.

"Don't play dumb with me. Hand over the shard."

A good actor would certainly be the phrase to use. He had 1013 years to perfect that carefree, sweet little smile, to iron out all the cruelty in it until there was no hint of it left behind. To keep those sinister eyes constantly hidden under a mask of easy mirth.

Heavens, at this point in his life, he practically was his mask!

"Oh, you mean this shard?" He turned that severed limb enough so that a hint of that precious artifact could be seen. "I'm afraid I really can't do that, actually. Finders keepers, you know." He rather idly began picking dirt out from under the nails of the severed arm.

"You're more than welcome to go after the second one though~. If they haven't already gotten it yet." He didn't even look slightly intimidated, lounging in the air as if he'd pulled up a nice comfortable chair.

"Who expects 'nice' at a prison break?" Fuu replied with raised eyebrows in Felix's general direction. "Obviously you came here for a reason. Did you expect lacy doilies? Or do prison guards searching for convicts scream like girls now?"

Privately her stomach churned, but the sarcasm gave her something to focus on -- the concentration of spitting one word out after another.

"If you can do something, it might be good to try, wouldn't it?" Ass.

The sudden return of the glow he'd noticed on his way out here was almost enough to distract him, but not quite. His stare was frozen on Xellos and that arm. Already he was trying to size him up, not that he could do that fully just by looking at him; the fact that he was somehow floating was enough to tell him that.

The mention of a second one threw him off for a moment, until he remembered that the voices from his phone had mentioned two escaped convicts. So the other one had been pursued by those looking for the shard as well.

He could deal with that one later. This one, however, he would claim here and now.

His stance lowered, bending at the knees... then he half leapt, half lunged; either way, the movement was far too sudden and fast to be human. His hand was outstretched, ready to make a grab for that arm.

Shannon was so far being quiet and, if not calm and collected, less terrified than he had been before. The trees had not made another move, and Shannon was safe. For now. The situation before him though -- it looked like it was getting a little hairy. It was time to answer the call. Fight the good fight. Steel the nerves and man up.

So, Shannon threw a baseball-sized rock. Underhand, slow, and without much force, but it made the distance to the floating Xellos and leaping Greed.

And then he ducked back down, lest anyone connect him to the rock, not even bothering to see if it had connected with either target. He didn't care if it did, really. He just wanted to go home, and maybe his rock would help. Maybe.
