But why do you have this firework show in this period...?
Because it's the 4th of July (aka Independence Day). That's the day the US declared independence from Britain in 1776. It's tradition to shoot off fireworks on that day :)

That picture is from the 2006 show. They let us write what we wanted on the 16" shells before they put them in the tubes :)
