I pledge allegiance to the flag... ON FIRE!

The proposed flag-burning amendment failed to pass the Senate today, by one vote.  Thankfully.  I'm getting tired of these lame attempts to amend the Constitution for the sole purpose of gaining political points with certain narrow constituencies.  And besides, is there a flag-burning epidemic going on that I'm unaware of?  Has anyone even burned a ( Read more... )

Ooh, I hadn't thought of the international angle. Maybe we should compromise and go the Emancipation Proclamation route: outlaw flag burning in those areas that we have no control over (i.e. the rest of the world). That way conservatives can feel triumphant about sticking it to the foreigners and liberals can feel happy about free speech. Hmmm...
