"Researcher in the hallway." "Roger."

I just finished my fifth day of research at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, and it looks like I'll wrap up there tomorrow.  For now, would you perhaps like a tour of the Happiest Place on Earth (Simi Valley branch)?

Oh, what wonders await inside... )

So Reagan was the transportation president? WTF? A motorcade, Marine-1, and Air Force 1, all of them ensconced within the presidential library?

Lordy.

There weren't any stuffed horses or mules around were there?

Surprisingly, no stuffed animals. There were lots of Frederic Remington-type statues of jumping horses in the Oval Office replica, though...

I agree. "That ever lived" is a bit much. I think "of our lifetimes" is a much more appropriate measure of his greatness.

That's true. From a more detached standpoint, I realize now that Reagan will never replace Franklin Pierce in my heart.

But... You have to drive down the Ronald Reagan Freeway to get to Simi Valley. And you have to drive up Presidential Drive to get to the library. And inside the library, every wall has photos of giant Reagan heads. And the bookstore only sells books by or about Reagan (except for one by Chris Matthews, which made me giggle). And there's Air Force One! After six days, I don't know what to believe anymore. My whole belief structure has buckled under the weight of conservative propaganda...
