Update: my hometown is still on fire, and another round of evacuations is under way. But the story made it to the front page of CNN, and even Gov. Schwarzenegger stopped by (perhaps to offer the firefighting skills he learned for Collateral Damage)! This is the most exposure the area has received since Bob Dole fell off a stage at a campaign stop

Your hometown just keeps getting hit. Hope everyone you know is okay.

None of my family live there anymore, thankfully, but lots of friends still have family there. Everyone seems to be ok, but a bunch of them have had to leave town a couple times. It's quite a mess, from what I understand.

I suppose we could also include Ishi and the huge gold nugget found in Magalia, but those might be reaching too far back in time and only appeal to limited audiences...
