Citizenship is overrated
As probably all of you know, my M.A. thesis at CSU Sacramento was on California's failure to ratify the Fourteenth Amendment until 1959, ninety-one years after two-thirds of the states ratified it. Now, forty-eight years later, a California Republican is co-sponsoring a bill in the House of Representatives that would gut part of that amendment.

If it is any consolation, I doubt that at least half of my community college students this summer would agree with Dane.
And, perhaps you've given me a little extra to lecture on when I get to the 1960s this fall when I teach that other half of U.S. history.
Now go stress about your exams so you, too, can soon start creating a thoughtful, informed army of anti-Danes.
