Catalyst for Change

Last night’s episode of Rookie Blue left McSwarek fans’ hearts shriveling up and dying (OK maybe not completely, but there is a HUGE gouge - possibly a McSwarek shaped hole).

Promos showed Andy and Nick in bed… that’s still to come (unfortunately) and after my outrage at Andy (and the writers) I came to see Nick as a DEVICE to help Andy learn to ( Read more... )

"The problem is, she doesn't want to work hard. I think that might have something to do with a subconscious idea that it's all going to go downhill anyway, like her parent's marriage." - LOVED THIS. It's spot on. When things get tough she runs, decides to get out first before she's hurt. But nothing worth having is every easy. Cheesy, but so, so true.

"He can see through her bullshit, he understands her." - This is why she needs Sam. He calls her out when she's being stupid. Nick just tells her what she wants to hear. But if you're never challenging someone personally to be better and think about things differently they never GROW. He will only hinder her progress. I think Nick is a catalyst but others around her are going to provide the wake up call.

Yes, she runs and tries to protect herself. And if you notice the Luke/Andy relationship--the flowers, dates, flowery dresses--princess treatment. Prince Charming in a suit. He was 'perfect'--she didn't have to do anything, he was doing all the work, everything was working out. But she wasn't happy, and he cheated. Her relationship with Sam is worth having and they're both gonna have to work for it, fight for it, and compromise. And it'll be so WORTH IT!!

Nick is another Luke, in a way. He agrees with everything she says, she's primed to bolt, to act, and they encourage that behavior. Sam centers her. He pushes her to think, to feel, to fight and grow.

Whatever happens with the ambulance scene is going to provide the true wakeup call I think. She'll start to realize she's losing everyone, and there will be some consequences to some of her actions (that Nick will have supported) and Sam might have to step in and save the day, or sacrifice himself, as always.

AND I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING 100%

What more can I say really? I'm so stoked that someone has managed to use a rational voice in this crappy situation that has tipped me over the edge.

We know all of this deep down, the whole lot. So, thankyou for putting it into eloquent words!

I really just put into MANY words the tidbits that people have been saying on Twitter. It's a really rough situation that McSwarek fans have been dealt. But I think the only way to remain sane (especially because we can't change anything) is to realize that Nick is part of a crucial lesson that Andy has to learn. It sucks that he's entwined with it, but Becca mentioned that Nick really is the perfect set up for the fall.

Yes, yes, yes, Raquel--well said!! Ick is a total device, it's clear as day. And I agree w/ what Becca has always said that it was easy to make him the device, b/c his character was already developed. So, easy yes, but it just feels SO unrealistic/not natural/incestual. Ah, maybe that's part of the point. Nothing about it feels right. Oh, the layers! lol!

We choose our reality. We have a choice. And that's definitely the crux, she MUST CHOOSE Sam. That's key, it must happen. Their story can't move forward if that choice isn't made. Sam needs her to do that, and she needs to do that for her. I think it will be HUGE for her when she does that. Enlightenment moment for sure. I'm curious how it's all going to come together. It's challenging for us to have to analyze all of this without having the whole season under our belts!

Thanks for these posts. I have these thoughts swimming all around my head and you've put them in order on the page. So helpful!
