Simon gave a last sympathizing glance as he disappeared out of the door.
Quiet.
Mal grabbed her hand squeezing it in a futilely reassuring gesture. Zoe closed her eyes and mourned the last piece of her humanity as it broke off forever lost. There was no pain. There was nothing beyond the blood stained cloth that covered that very last piece.
Hope?
She closed her eyes against it. Mal’s hand grew tighter around her own, begging some kind of reaction.
Gone.
She couldn’t move against the image of the tiny hand that peeked out from beneath that cloth.
