While talking with angryzen I realized that Greta Martin is the strongest witch in TVD we've met so far. For her to be snuffed out by a sick, one off no named vampire like Damon Salvatore is a mystery to me. It's sloppy and telling and I don't believe it. I have it in my head now that Greta Martin put up an illusion to make Damon think that he killed her.

Yes. Greta was more powerful than Bonnie and Emily. She didn't need the energy of 100 dead witches to break that 1000 year-old-curse. She didn't even sweat. She performed four spells: putting Klaus back in his body, spelling the circles so Elena, Jules, and Jenna couldn't get out, she slowed down Jules' transformation, and she broke the curse.

And she was killed by Screw Up Salvatore? She wouldn't have put up a protective circle around herself?

I bet you she did have a protection spell and a glamor around it so the if someone crossed the boundary they thought that they killed her. I bet you her spell was so powerful ... that it fooled the writers and some of the audience. ;)

I was just thinking today, remember how Katherine said the burning of the 100 witches is well known in witch lore? Well Greta Martin will be well known in witch lore because she released the Hybrid. Allowed him to exist. I think that's kind of cool.

I think it'd be even better if Greta put some kind of secret time bomb clause on Klaus. For just in case he ever turned on her or left her for dead or something like that.
