The nice thing about Ellis is that you can always think he has achieved Peak Ellis, and then he figures out something else.
But, yeah, Injection feels like Planetary for the Anthropocene --- the most core strangeness in the world isn't old and beautiful, it's toxic and human-made, and the problem isn't to uncover it, but to figure out how to keep it from killing us.
It's our rotten luck that the smug ultracompetent bastards who did it are also the best ones to fix it...
Barely related, one of my (several) gripes with Doctor Who is that as of late, pretty much everything the Doctor has to fix is directly (his mistake) or indirectly (somebody trying to hurt him) his fault. The "Batman makes crime worse" argument at a cosmic level.
