Hey Zoya, I'm looking into music schools right now and can you tell me what BU is like? As in the intensity, social life, free time, teachers, classes, competitiveness? Also, does BU ask for a lot from grades for acceptance? Or do they focus more on your audition? And, how easy is it to meet non-music majors? I don't think I can handle dating a musician..
It far exceeded my expectations of a university (vs conservatory). We have amazing professors, really really high level professors both in music and everything else. Music community is like a big family, everyone is extremely supportive of each other. Social life requires some time, unless you're into frats and shit like that. But once you find your friends, you hang out and .. There's so much to do during free time, especially when the weather is nice. Which is quite often, I might add.
It's pretty easy to meet non music majors, you just have to live in teh "right" dorm (WEST CAMPUS).
BU is just fucking great. I don't think they care about your grades much, I'm sure yours are far better than mine.
Classes are pain in the ass, but CFA major are not required to take any math or science.
It sounds a bit unbelievable, but we have great teachers. Like.. all of them.
I'm studying with Yuri Mazurkevich, and he may not work for a lot of people because unless you ask him to work on technique, he won't. Bela Keyes works on technique a lot and is great at it, Peter Zazovsky is great as well (even though I haven't really talked ot his students about his teaching), Lucia Lin is really good, she works on technique and everything else. Um... whatever floats your boat, ya know.. They are just all great.
You never camwhore anymore. Is it because you found a score? Or are you too poor? Or maybe you're just bored, or maybe you smashed your face on a door?
