Back to rewriting Introspection again

I'm actually pulling a ladyofthesea and I printed out the entire thing and stuck it in a binder. I just found that when I'm sitting at the comp, I'd rather do other things like ... well, internet stuff =P So I thought this would be a good way to get myself to work on it more. Plus, I can actually relax and get comfortable while doing it, which will ( Read more... )

Yay I've started a trend! XD

At least your chapters are short and sweet. I tend to lose track of the lengths for mine. The first chapter for 'Two Worlds' is I think six or seven, and only get longer with each one. XD In fact, I have NO idea what chapter I'm working on right now. I've started adding entirely new scenes. I might want to fix that. ^_^'

I think short chapters are good, since people inherently have short attention spans. Besides, I know if I'm reading a book that I'm about to put down for awhile, I'm much more likely to give in and read one more chapter if the next one is 3 pages, instead of, say, 20.

I mainly did it with Introspection because my first couple chapters were originally something like 12 pages, and someone suggested that I chop them up into about 3 parts each (because of readers' short attention spans), so after that I used 3-4 pages as the general guidline of how long they should be. It's especially good this way since it was made to be on the internet where people REALLY have short attention spans =P

This conversation reminds me of how Stephen King's "Eyes of the Dragon" was set up--the length of chapters was totally inconsistent. The longer ones were like 10-15 pages where I think the shortest one was one short paragraph. I liked it, tho--added to the quirkiness of an already quirky story.

Good theory. The majority of people, especially on the internet, want quick fixes. Me on the other hand, I like the long, drawn out stuff and get irked when I can't seem to find any good fics. I've had stuff recommended to me, but half the time they turn out to be wildly OOC I'd rather read a crappy fic.

Got no quirkiness to back my randomized chapter page count. I just get lost in the story. XD
