Ray, you couldn't have said it better. Why isn't OEMS on the hook as part of the problem Their only concern rest with the hours of attendance, not in the actual material covered. It is a systemic problem that needs to be addressed from the top. OEMS response to this will be as usual; suspensions, revocations and terminations. That's THEIR bottom line. Why do you think they have more staff dedicated to investigations and SARF review than they do to course development? We can only hope that someday, the bureaucracy that has come to define OEMS, will morph into one that actually serves the EMS community and the citizens of the Commonwealth.

How can OEMS approve anything online related. There is no roster to sign. There is no proof that it was me sitting at my computer. Yet i can go thru for 50 bucks and do 24 hours of "Con-Ed" in 4 hours, and this is ok? Until OEMS is willing to accept some responsibilty for a long broken system, we are not going to see change. I too know a few people on this list and i would not have any issues with them treating myself or my family. The punishment is not fitting the crime in my opinion. This was tried in the press and the blogs that go with it. Take a look at some of the past investigations OEMS has done in regards to actual calls. 2 paramedics last year don't do CPR on an infant, falsely document the trip record, lie to the investigators and receive a 30 day suspension from OEMS?? I'm not condoning what was done, but I am not going to look that harshly on the people who are on that list. System is so incredibly broken and has been for 20 years.
You expressed my thoughts exactly. I really do feel that practicing EMTs/paramedics don't need the refresher course and the "This is how we set up the oxygen...what's a nasal cannula again?" The OB stuff, maybe, I don't know many EMTs that have actually delivered in the rig. And I like the 28 hours of CE, because then YOU can decide what you want to learn and can actually get something good out of it
