Real world location of Galhea?

Hope folk still lurk here...

Anyone know if Galhea is supposed to be founded on a particular real world town, the way Duwamish is Seattle? I'm trying to decide upon some locations for a 'what the humans were up to in the early days of the Wraeththu' fanfic.

I could have sworn I heard it was placed in some actual location, but I've long since forgotten where. I can't recall any specific mention that it was based on an actual city or town, however. Wish I could help more than that, sorry. :/

That said, I'm glad to know some people are still writing fic! All the old places seem dead now, and I'm not sure where everyone went off to or if the fandom really did go collectively quiet. But then I'm out of the loop, as last I heard of any activity was years ago on Second Life.

Have you read the latest books? I just finished The Moonshawl the other day.

I'm behind on the books. I just read Para Imminence, which is what kicked off the urge to dust off a part-written fic from when dinosaurs ruled the earth and have another go at it.

the closest I've ever been able to figure out is possibly somewhere in Missouri, maybe somewhere near the Missouri River as Flick & Ulaume travel there on their boat. It's definately somewhere rural as opposed to a large city as it's surrounded by well established farms according to the books, as a Brit my knowledge of the States is limited to maps I'm afraid but I hope that helps :)

Somewhere in the mid-west in the central United States, South west of the great lakes area. At least that's what the map in one of the books shows.

Thanks. I've been trying to draw the outlines of states on a photocopy of the map from the RPG, but it's rather fiddly! :-)

I think it's got to be in either the Midwest or the South based on the fact that the hara around Galhea are mostly farmers. I'm personally rather attached to the idea of the Galhean Varrs being southerners -- there's something about their values or their culture that just strikes me as so southern. I was a bit crushed when Storm described Forever as looking like an English manor house or something in a recent short story, because I'd always pictured it as a southern plantation.

Thanks. Yeah, I always visualised pillars and a veranda like a plantation/colonial India style house for Forever. I don't think we have the weather here in the UK for a plantation style house, so our stately homes are all thick stone walls and small windows!

It does amuse me to think of the Varrs living in Downton Abbey. I'd definitely watch that episode! :-)
