The AU From HELL

A deviation from the norm, I bring you some writings on Teen Titans!

So... kiyoshi_chan complained that a mix of American comics and wuxia serials was giving her weird ideas and since I was in a crack AU mode, I said "Stormwatch set in feudal China!" And she was like "AUGH NO!" And I was like "Aww..." but the plot bunnies wouldn't let go of the idea.

Hence, I bring you TEEN TITANS SET IN FEUDAL CHINA!

Before you run away screaming in terror, let me convince you this is a GOOD idea. Really. The Teen Titan's powers are very easily translated to martial arts powers. Even the flying people, because everyone in Chinese swordfighting novels can fly anyway.

Have a snippet of the weirdness:

Based on the cartoon Teen Titans
Set in ancient China
Features the others talking about Raven
Word count: 340

Their attackers were very terrified, very non-threatening, and very dead.

In the middle of all the dead bodies, Raven stood unmoving, one hand still dripping blood in a slow patter on the ground. She looked very much like her namesake at the moment, when her dark cloak was buffeted by the winds, tracing the vaguest suggestion of wings about her person. Her companions stared.

Tentatively, Beast Boy hazarded a "Raven?"

His voice carried louder than it should have in the unnatural silence, and at the sound, Raven spooked. Within moments, she dashed into the forest, melting into the shadows between the trees quickly and easily.

"Raven? Raven!"

"She won't come, Beast Boy," said Victor, laying a comforting hand on the shapeshifter's shoulders. "You know how Raven gets."

"What did she do anyway?"

"Forbidden martial arts," said Robin grimly, kneeling by a dead body and inspecting it. "Raven's using techniques used only by the demon sects."

"But doesn't that like, suck all the energy out of whoever you're fighting and kill them instantly?" The shapeshifter's eyes were wide and he gestured wildly.

"That's why it's forbidden," Robin replied, stepping away from the corpses. "Raven's expertise with poisons, her unwillingness to talk about her past, the people she was familiar with... I should have known that she was from the demon sects from the start."

"That is not Raven's fault," said Starfire quietly, staring at the ground. The tribal princess had one hand curled around her forearm, a clear indication of her unhappiness. "We... talked about our past once. She told me her unwillingness to kill was the very reason why she ran away. Other than that, I can tell you no more."

The other Titans thought over this in silence, pondering over the secrets that their darkest member hid in her past. Robin was the first to speak.

"Raven may be from the demon sects, but she's still our friend. We need to find her, and bring her back safely. Titans, split up!"

The others nodded, and went in various directions.

Pretty OK other than the weird terms, huh? Cyborg doesn't translate well to Chinese, so I chose to use his given name, Victor. And I wasn't able to squeeze this into the story, but he still has one artificial arm, which is made of metal and exceptionally heavy, so he takes it off at night.

Apologies for the weirdness. ^^ *sheepish*
