come on people. this is ridiculous. i just read CK's blog over at deafdc.com and i have to BEG TO DIFFER. CK- you are hearing impaired. i know the term makes you feel inadequate but it is a GRUESOME REALITY. i know its easier to sit back and deny what is ultimately the truth and make youself feel all warm and fuzzy inside by saying you are ( Read more... )

another reason why shouldnt get CI:

you can't scuba dive
you can't sky dive
you can't play physical sports

whatever rocks their boat is fine with me.. as long as it's not during the phase when the kids aren't able to make decisions for themselves. I think the kids should go through speech thearpy first before any permanent actions upon them are taken.

technology is not perfect enough for my taste yet. but i bet you in a few years all those things you mentioned would be possible...then what could we argue against it?
other than that it will eradicate our precious deaf culture?
with everyone wearing ipods and hearing aids at gally, what has deaf culture really become?

you're right. little by little, we are being diminished. before we know it, deafness is just a record in the history of time. technology is advancing and advancing fast.

i'm just enjoying gallaudet as much as i can because i know this doesn't reflect the real world that's yet to come for me.

it'll be interesting to see how that would be like. the eradication of deafness.

You know if I was in the US I would oppose you but now in my 2nd Africa trip (Cameroon) I find myself relying more and more on my hearing aids. Mostly so I dont get run dowm by a taxi, but also because well here in Africa Deaf people are not looked upon very kindly and I get tired of asking people to write things down and dealing with the ohh your just another dumb deaf person.

I have no objections to the fact that people used CIs. It is their bodies.

I think as long as Signed Language is around, Deaf Culture won't go. They said that with hearing aids, Deaf culture will be gone a long time ago. Evidently, that is not the case.

Same thing with CIs. But one bigger problem is that people are starting to fuck the ASL as a language and claim that it is a language when you knew it is not really ASL.

I mean, there are students at Gallaudet who clamored that they are using ASL but you cringed at how they expressed themselves -- appalling by God.

As for CK, I never regard his comments as real, though.
