Cliche-A-Thon

Sep 10, 2007 13:53

I have written many a cliche, but I haven't used River's hair much, so though this cliche falls in the pre-rayne catagory I used it in the rayne dating, courting whatever timeframe. Hope that's okay. Isn't beta'd and this is my first foray into a challenge type thingy...enjoy!

Title: Death By Hair
Cliche-a-thon: Brushing Hair
Author: Crystalkei
Rated: G
Spoilers: post BDM, but there really aren't spoilers

Jayne woke coughing and pulling hair out of his mouth.

“River!” he hollered. “I told ya to put this hair o’ yours back!”

The hair in question was swiped from his hands; River glared sleepily at him.

“I’m serious girl! One day I’ma wake up dead ‘cause your hair done suffocated me in my sleep!” Jayne continued yelling. River sat up and rolled her eyes while Jayne went on and on. “That’s it, if you ain’t gonna take me seriously…”

“I can sleep in my own bunk if you like,” River interrupted him. He frowned.

“Now that ain’t what I said,” Jayne argued.

“Then quit complaining!” River raised her voice to make her point.

“Ruttin’ genius can’t figure out that she’s gonna kill her man and I gotta tell ya, death by hair is not the way I imagined going,” Jayne said. “I gave you two options the other night when this happened! I said you pull it back, I pull it back, or you cut it.”

“That’s three options,” River stated.

“Yeah, that’s what I said,” Jayne retorted.

“No you said…never mind,” River said, throwing her hands up.

“Right, so should I go find the scissors?”

“No!” River jumped up from the bed and sprinted to the other side of the small room; hands up, ready to fight. “You will not be cutting my hair!”

“Then put it back!” Jayne got up and rummaged around in a drawer by his bed. Pulling out a brush he tossed it at her; she caught it and looked at him through narrowed eyes. “Fine, I’ll put it back, c’mere.” Jayne added.

Staring at him skeptically River handed him the brush. “Be nice, no tricks.”

“No tricks, just trying to keep your hair outta my air way, stuff’s got a mind of it’s own, just as crazy as you,” Jayne told her as he sat on the bed leaving a spot for her in between his legs.

River took a weary step forward and spoke again. “Have to be soft, there’s tangles.”

“Yeah, yeah, I got it, let’s get this stuff braided so I can get me some shut eye.”
