very nice! however you might wanna capitalize Serenity. it's a name same as River or Jayne. =)

I really liked the whole thing, but oddly, the part that stuck out to me the most was the reference to Simon as her 'handler.' I thought that was quite an apt description.

Hmmm...Simon is River's "handler," huh? Gotta say...it's an intriguing reference to Joss' later work, though Simon's efforts in protecting River does seem to mirror the initial relationship Boyd Langton had with Echo before the whole "he's secretly the Big Bad!" reveal in S2 of Dollhouse came along ;D

And I have to say the imagery of Jayne's thoughts being a touchstone or anchor point for River was eye catching and a tiny bit mind borking, but that's just River IMO...
