She sank down onto one of the hard plastic seats and turned her attention to her rented shoes. They were possibly the most hideous items of apparel that she’d ever seen - red on the outside of the foot, blue on the instep, silver in the middle, and done up with lengths of grubby paste-colored cotton that would have sent fastidious Grandmother Serra into a dead faint over the likelihood of infection.
Isn't that the reaction everyone over time has had when dealing with the god awful bowling shoes the alleys provide! (I finally bought a pair of my own and while they aren't gross like the standard issues, they look like orthopedic "old lady" sneakers.
Anyways, this story ROCKS my world. You are just too sweet....(I'm pinching your cheek right now....) :)Ali

I had the exact same reaction when I put on my first pair of shoes in the Curundu bowling alley in the Panama Canal Zone. They were icky and hideous and gross!
Someday I will have my own shoes and bowling ball - I totally suck at the sport, but that doesn't take away from the fun of it!
I'm so glad you like it! *bearing the cheek-pinching as gracefully as possible...* :D

I'm going to try and update every Tuesday and Friday - I realize there's people invested in this story so I'd best satisfy them before they invade my journals and write evil things about me and camels. :D

I'm still loving this, especially the retro, early-60's feel of it. ESPECIALLY the pink bowling shirt and scarf around the ponytail! And Jayne's actually being nice! But... can he really improve her bowling? :-)
I'll definitely be tuning in to find out.

Jayne's a nice guy deep down. But don't tell him that - he's "got a rep to protect"!
More to come!
