Reading Twilight So You Don't Have To: Discussion Questions

Back in Chapter Six, I commented that there were some discussion questions listed at the back of the book, and rosiewook suggested I post them. So here they are. Discuss away.

Question 10--REALLY? Nothing actually reminds me of P&P in Twilight. The loosest comparison possible is that Edward is the rich aloof man the heroine thinks hates her. But Elizabeth Bennett doesn't respond to Darcy's disdain by falling all over herself thinking he is OMG THE MOST PERFECT MAN EVER LUV HIM ALWAYS DESTINY HEARTS FLOWERS *vomit*. When Darcy gives her his "I love you, in spite of your horrible family" speech, she calls him on this and tells him to go jump in a lake. Even though he is, in many ways, right, and her thoughts on his horrible nature are based in part on lies told about him by her "friend". Darcy has to prove the other man a liar AND go out of his way to help her family when he has no reason at all to do it, even when the person he helps most is that liar.

So basically Twilight would be Pride and Prejudice if, the FIRST time Darcy proposed and called all her family morons and massive social liabilities, Elizabeth had said "Oh, yes, I'll marry you, and what family? Where?"

I know, right? Delusions of grandeur, much? (SM, I mean.)

Just because the author SAYS it was an inspiration does not actually mean it's a legitimate comparison...but then like jodisue says below, discussion questions in Twilight? They were probably reaching.

I just can't get over the fact that there are discussion questions at all. Because there are so many complicated themes and ideas? Really? I expect them in the back of my Penguin Classics, but Twilight? Really? Discussion questions? Delusions of grandeur is right.

P.S. I posted a video to my profile from the Pastor doing the review.

Yeah, I just commented on the video.

These are really lame questions, too. And yes, it is crazy for a pulp fiction book to have discussion questions, like this is something for a meaty book club discussion. ::facepalm::

OK. So just to show I am not against all things LDS, as I am NOT. I read this blog. And the post on 2/15 about Customer Service is really funny. You should read it.

Thank you for all the "quick links" at the bottom. :-) I just "pimped you out" to a friend who has a 4th grader who wants to read them.

I can't believe I now have the 3rd and 4th books on my Kindle. I bought them for a girl I work with - she's seen the first two movies and couldn't wait for the next two to find out how it all ends. Luckily, the 3rd book was on sale when I got it, but by the time I bought the 4th one, it was back up to $11!!!! Argh! She owes me a lot of chocolate for that. :-)
