Mechanisms lead to stability with minor outbreaks of violence that were firmly suppressed. People behaved in accordance because effective/totalitarian control mechanisms and people accepted a life that was "safe" although boring. Low rate of crime. Individual frustration on a personal level, ie divorce and alcoholism.

WOW. WAY TO GLOSS OVER. IDK. EVERYTHING?! AGH.

SERIOUSLY. If I was talking about Democracy I wouldn't gloss over the fucking retarded things done, or the seriously disturbing and violent ones, but I would not cover Communism in this way. Not at all.

What the fuck. Seriously, what the fuck.

Especially the way things are right now in China after the Nobel Prize announcement and that whole dick wagging contest between Japan and China--which was mostly about nationalism, but China... idk, they kinda scare me. I admire the nation and their history for a lot of reasons, but I realize that it's also very full of blemishes and a lot of those blemishes are current.

It was bewildering. Just... insanely bewildering. When she mentioned China, I was waiting for a comment on the censorship or how China owns everyone's debt, and wasn't very surprised when she didn't mention it. She doesn't consider China to be Communist due to their acceptance of capitalism in general. My old roommate currently living in China finds her to be ridiculous.

If I could figure out how to calmly and non-aggressively ask, I would bring up the whole terror thing. HOW DO YOU NOT MENTION THAT?! It was even covered in Animal Farm, for crying out loud!
