Alternate Reality

I saw Star Trek Saturday morning. I came in anticipating full on hatred of the thing and left anticipating the next one. The BoR and I saw it in IMAX which was probably a mistake. So many quick edits during action scenes, which are plentiful and long, things got jumbled and confused on a screen that big. The plot really made no sense at all. I ( Read more... )

It's not important how I did it but he was blissfully quiet for the remainder of the film.

I can't begin to tell you how important it is.

Once again I had make somebody shut the fuck up in a theater.

You did good, and I salute you. Jesus, that irritates me.

I thought Chris Pine was splendid--he was the one I was worried about and he did a lovely job. I knew everyone else was going to rock it, and was not disappointed. If the next one has a more coherent plot, that would be nice, but I'll freely admit that I'd settle for watching the crew just hanging out and being awesome together. I felt like the chemistry was that good. They could do freakin' Friends in space and I'd watch it.

It's got to the point with me where it has to be a movie I'm DYING to see (Not sure if ST qualifies for me--I'm kind of a casual fan)for me to subject myself to movie theater audiences anymore.

I find that if I just avoid the first 2-3 weekends, when all the folks who are WAY too annoying go, I can usually enjoy a movie in peace.

Packed houses = no rebar.

Hard to do that with the IMAX shows because they are a limited run. Turned out it was unnecessary with this movie because it was probably better in the old fashioned 70mm.

I'm a big believer in only seeing movies that were made for IMAX at IMAX.

Bigger is not automatically better.

Batman was way too darkly lit and the editing was not suited to IMAX. But when I saw it again in a regular theater, I could totally follow the action scenes.

Beowulf (animated) on IMAX was rockin' fun, though!

I'm a 70mm girl for life, yo! (when they actually project correctly and use the appropriate amount of footcandles to light the screen. sigh.)

I really enjoyed the movie. The only thing going against it is that we never feared that THEY would actually DIE. We know they'll be okay, right? It's a prequel.

Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. partly because the audience I saw it with was AWESOME. not a fucking peep and a round of applause when Nimoy showed up. Fucking great.

You HAVE to tell us how you made him shut up! I've been threatened by an 8 year old before for telling his mom to shut up. Its usually impossible to do this in a conflict-free way.
