Once Upon a Time: Episodes 12 - 22

So, I’ve completed the second half of Once Upon a Time season three; what I suppose will eventually be known as the Oz arc (just as the first half of this season was the Neverland arc). And ... I didn’t hate it. I guess. That’s about all the emotion I can muster up over this. This attitude no doubt comes from the fact that a) I’m not that invested ( Read more... )

I'm with you on the shipping crap in fandom. I was pretty disappointed when Neal died because I was a casual Neal/Emma shipper. I also happen to loathe Hook/Emma for various reasons (including that his character has been screwed to fit into the plotline). As you said, it's become abundantly clear that the writers are listening to the loudest (and most obnoxious) voices in fandom and bowing to their whims ( ... )

I actually saw the Elsa cameo on Tumblr well before seeing the episode, and for the longest time I thought it was some sort of cosplay!

And yeah, the moment any show starts listening to fandom, the writing will immediately take a downward spiral. It's the reason I quit "Sherlock" as well, since the third season spent more time waving at the fanbase than actually telling a damn story.

I've done my fair-share of complaining about shows/writing choices, but not for a second do I think that any professional writer should be listening to me or anyone else. There's no way I'd expect or even WANT writers/actors/creators of the things I review actually reading what I have to say about them, even if it's something positive. I think RT Davies said it best:

Creating something is not a democracy. The people have no say. The artist does. It doesn’t matter what the people witter on about: they and their response come after. They’re not there for the creation.

I find it stunning that Snow has the fortitude to reach out to Regina while she’s grieving for Henry and actually listen to her complain about how hard it is to be without her child when Emma’s entire life was defined by Regina’s decision to destroy Snow’s family. I’m astounded that Emma can say: “I thought our family were the good guys” when they hear that Princess Ava exposed Cora as a liar to her fiancé about being pregnant with another man’s baby (the implication being that letting Leopold believe that Zelena was his own child would have been the better option?) I’m bewildered that Emma can so easily shrug off witnessing her mother’s (presumed) death by burning at Regina’s hands and actually apologise to HER that she’s broken up Regina/Robin by saving an innocent woman’s life - a woman whose life was endangered by Regina. You're talking about a late Season 3 episode in which Regina was in the midst of changing her life around for the good . . . and you're still BITCHING about her.
