This will be the fourth rather lukewarm review I've given to one of my current TV shows in the last five days, which isn't a particularly good feeling, especially after such the excellent run of entertainment I've been enjoying lately. Its totally frustrating to watch something when you can immediately see a better or more logical story line. Its annoying to go "dark" and killing people just to make a WOW statement.

It seems these days any female character who isn't immediately a kick-ass, or villain is labelled a "Mary Sue" I don't think people realise exactly what a Mary Sue is.

So far my favourite characters have been Lucy (maybe I'm being a bit biased to Katie here) and her relationship with Mina, and Renfield - and neither are in very many scenes.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers seems to me to be bored in some scenes.

I hear they are waiting to see if they get a second season, if that's the case, then this might explain why we've had 3 episodes and really nothing has moved forward. If its a slow burn, with pieces of the puzzle starting to come together soon, I'll forgive them, but at present it seems to be just wasting time.

See generally I'm quite patient with slow burns, but I do expect there to be SOME degree of character insight in place of plot momentum (see: "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" which takes ages to get started but which is completely fascinating beforehand). Here, I didn't really get much more of an understanding of these characters to go on top of not much really happening.

All my favourite scenes involved Lucy/Mina - at least they were having FUN.
