Only a few observations this time around, as this episode very much felt like filler…

I broadly agree with you - there was a lot of filler going on.

I am glad that someone who doesn't ship them sees that there has been ship teasing going on about Mary/Tom. I have complicated feelings about how the show has been dealing with that. I certainly find their relationship as played fascinating, and the scene in the nursery was my very favourite. But all told, I really don't know what to think about Tom possibly leaving.

I took Mrs Hughes's 'you had it coming' to refer specifically to Daisy's rant at Ivy for regretting turning Alfred down after Jimmy's behaviour, not to anything else. I think Ivy was pretty oblivious to how her behaviour was affecting Daisy and leading up to Daisy's blow-out. I agree that said blow-out wasn't proportionate.

Yeah, there was just something about the conversation with Isabel that seemed to hint that she was suggesting that Tom and Mary would make a good pair - though the fact that Tom more or less shut this down might indicate that Fellowes is playing with the possibility without really committing to it.

I'm not really a shipper at the best of times, and I love male/female platonic relationships, so I'm hoping that they'll remain brother/sister in law. At this point in their lives I think they both need each other (as widowers and young parents) though I suppose Tom's leaving/not leaving will be hinge on what the actor plans to do.

Re: Mrs Hughes words, I agree that in hindsight her "had it coming" comment was more to do with Ivy's behaviour toward Daisy than what happened with Jimmy, but I'm still liable to take Ivy's side in the matter - at the end of the day it's not her fault that Alfred fancied her and not Daisy. (Though really, none of the characters involved in the downstairs love triangles interest me very much).

Yeah, I'm unspoiled. I could understand the actor wanting to leave, given the very wobbly through line that they've given the character, although he's done the best with it.

That's true enough, and though I have a residual loyalty towards Daisy and want her to be happy I think she made a cake of herelf over Alfred, and I couldn't see why. A part of me thinks she would have been more content if she'd left Downton for the Masons' farm and become more independant. This particular Daisy-Alfred-Ivy-Jimmy thing feels like it's been going on for far too long.
