On the one hand, I'm really glad to have the show back. On the other, not as strong as I'd hoped.
In fact, if this were my first exposure to the show, I'm not sure I'd have gotten hooked. As it is, they're asking that we put a lot of faith in them for some of the weak setups we're given this week.
Worst example of this is Hiro's predicament. A short

Parkman divorced his wife? NO! NOT THAT! They were going to have a baby! He was all excited! He was the one trying to keep her despite her affair! That makes me very very angry.
Nathan? That's the senator? He lives?

As for Parkman... I was surprised about the divorce as well. I have some guesses as to what happened (running off for several weeks and getting shot in the chest might put some strain on a marriage, or it may be as simple as the reconciliation didn't work), and I'm hoping it will be explained.

A lot of the plotlines seem like huge stretches or over-elaborate 180-degree turns from previous. I really dislike Nathan (who was so deliciously conniving) as a Tony Stark wanna be. And the "crate" plotline is so completely cliche and predictable.
It came off to me like the writers didn't really have any plotline plans for beyond the first season and are now stretching. I'm waiting for them to wow me again.

Because while yeah, the first episode of season 1 had more whoa! moments, no one was expecting anything so everything was a whoa moment.
"he crossed a street and started talking about waffles! WHOA THAT WAS AWESOME!"

Hiro's Journey to the Past = Hero's Journey to becoming a badass. He stops looking for others to be heroes and learns that he's a hero in his own right. My money is he'll be the Takeshi Kensei his father read stories of.
As for HRG, I said at one one "haha, your dad's the devil' and Stef said "he's not the devil anymore, he's good' and then you see him, once being immensely powerful in a wacky conspiracy cult being treated like dirt in a kinko's. Then he showed, once more, that he's the devil and I love him.
I'm happy to learn whatever they want to reveal to us about the watchmen Twelve.
As for the looking forward too, they've made a big deal about shorter story arcs and I think it will work. More happened in this episode than 6 issues of a bendis book, so I'm pleased.
