DC Rec: Iconic by Te and Jack (NC-17)

Here's an old story from 2003 that I adore because it's Bruce/Dick without any of the fanon (and canon) aspects that so disturbs me about this pairing and Batman/Robin/former-Robin pairings in general: underage sex, abuse of power, ambiguous consent, manipulation, confusion about feelings, no talking when there is an urgent need to address ( Read more... )

You know what's funny is that I've read Bruce/Dick for the HORRIBLENESS that is the attraction to the abuse of power and consent issues and so on. A few times, but it's the squickiest pairing of all time to me. It just freaks me out. AND I think it's absolutely ooc for Bruce. No way, no how. The Bruce/Robins pairings in DCU fandom really turned me off the fandom in a major way because I couldn't understand how that could be so endemic and accepted. Not that people shouldn't write/read whatever they want, but that people seemed to think it was IN CHARACTER for Bruce to do that. Uh uhn.

Well, this story is safe to read. :D It's got adult Dick and a Bruce who isn't scary or channeling the Bat.

I have to admit that while I sometimes like the extremely fucked-up-ness of Bruce/anyone. espec. if the story acknowledges that fact, I do prefer my Robins with each other or Tim with Kon or Bart. (I feel the same push/pull about Snape/Harry when Harry is underage, or Don/Charlie in Numb3rs, even when the brothers are adult. Sometimes it's tolerable, even enjoyable, but the underlying wrongness has to be part of the story.)

Yeah, I agree w/ you. I also have the added problem of Bruce having sex at all to get over in my head.
