After The Test

I wrote this little piece directly after episode 1 x 11 of Merlin. That uncovered space of time between when we see Merlin smiling down at unconscious Arthur and Merlin and Arthur riding into Camelot was just too good to resist. This is also my very first fanfic ever, so be gentle with me. Please?

It's a good spot you picked up the story from! That part needed some explaining (together with the part where Merlin saved Arthur from the lake in ep. 7, and some others). Funny enough, I've been tempted to try the same thing you did - sometimes I think Merlin/Arthur fans must have part of the brains wired in a similar way. ;)
I liked the witty comments and the bickering. And especially the "pure of heart - girly" comment. It reminds me of what Arthur actually said when he shot the unicorn. ("Don't be such a girl, Merlin.")

Thanks! I've actually read several other fics since I wrote mine that are set in the same time/place. I think you're right, that it was a spot that needed more explanation, and all us fangirls just had to fill it in our selves. :-)

I was actually thinking of Arthur's "Don't be such a girl, Merlin" comment when I wrote that line. It seems like coming off as "girly" is something that Arthur might be concerned about. Especially my fictional Arthur, who may secretly want to be sexing another boy like - ahem - Merlin. ;-)

Ah, makes sense, then. I like it when fic authors take on such hints and try to keep the characters true to how they act in the show (in spite of all the temptation to make them do things they truly wouldn't.) :) Keep it up!

Arthur looked at Merlin sadly. “Are we in Avalon? Did you follow me there like you follow me everywhere? Did you, my little friend?”

This is completely not awful! I don't know where you got that idea. This was lovely. It was the perfect balance of sweet and funny and fit perfectly with the mood right after that scene. :D
