You do have a good question: Did Steve Kloves even read PoA? What the heck was up with Hero!Hermione? And backstory? Where was that?
On Rent:
Joey Fatone was playing Mark on Broadway about the time that Jai Rodriguez jumped from Canadian touring cast to the Broadway cast.
Currently, Drew Lachey- aka 25% of 98 Degrees, and Jessica Simpson's brother-in-law- is playing Mark.
And Scary Spice is still Mimi.
I don't like Clay Aiken, and i don't want him in it, and i do not want Columbus directing or working on the screenplay, but some pop stars might work. What i'd love though is to have the original cast back for the movie, though! Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, Jesse L. Martin, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Idina Menzel, and everyone else. Giles Chiasson! (SqueeGee Man!) That would be excellent.
Too bad Idina's in WICKED, Jesse L. Martin's in Law and Order, and i'm pretty sure Daphne's doing something.

I love each and every one of you, and I'm going to comment on the RENT thing.
a) Clay Aiken isn't actually all that bad. Who else (beside the original cast or Broadway stars) would you rather have play him? Clay has the look, he has the voice, give him a little credit.
b) While Chris -has- done family movies recently, he is a very good director. Look at Harry Potter out of contact with the book. Very well directed, excellent cinematography...he's a good guy. So give him a bit of a break.
c) To put it in perspective...they were going to make RENT a TV movie. So absolutely NO bitching is allowed. From ANYONE. Do you hear me? NO BITCHING.
Besides. You can't change anything. And Chris SAVED RENT from the evils of sitcom-land, where the US is comprised of two states; New York and California.

a) If we're going with a pop star for Mark, i'd say Joey Fatone, because at least he's played the role, and Seymour, so he has Broadway experience. I'd love for the Mark from the cast we saw to be in the movie, he was very good and his voice never got so whiny that i started thinking about it and not the story. (Occasionally i can't listen to Anthony Rapp because of it.) i really don't know why i don't like Clay Aiken. i think in the context of the role that it's just because his persona seems so opposite from Mark. Otherwise, probably because i have an inherent distrust of the famous.
b/c)If Columbus saved us from TV movie, i can support him. TV movies are almost always completely evil. i can overlook the parts of his Harry Potter's that i don't like because it's almost all due to the limitations of the younger members cast and not him.
He can't completely screw-up RENT unless he made it completely non-musical, and no one would let that happen.

Okay, really quick though.....Home Alone?
And Clay isn't THAT bad. I mean, I was rooting for him during American Idol. It's so weird how being woken (waken?) up to one creepy song can ruin your whole impression of a person. I was actually hoping he'd do Broadway.
Okay, I'm also happy it's not becoming a TV movie. I would literally shoot everyone in my sight and THEN shoot myself.

Forever.
I bet you anything that he'll be spying on the female cast, humming "Invisible".
Creepy, creepy man.
