Do you talk to your friends about money? I mean, talk to them about how much they make, how much they've saved, how much they made in the past, etc? I don't. I don't talk with coworkers about salary--it seems unprofessional. I don't really discuss it with anybody except my sister, and to a lesser extent, my cousin/boss. It doesn't come up that frequently, thankfully.

About all I know about salaries at my office is that the "management" people (anybody with a fancy title, not the developers or QA) went an extra two months without pay back when things were tight. I'm guessing that everybody here makes a pretty "normal" amount, based on experience and job duties, that would fit into a range you'd find online (because of what I make, which I think fits into an appropriate range).

you're probably right about the age difference; almost everybody at my office is over 30. I think there are 2 people who aren't.

Wow, two months?! That's incredible. I mean, I wouldn't mind getting into a management position one day, but I don't think I could take a two month hit. I know that management at my dad's company were taking home 90% of their salary when times were tough, but at least they got money. That's probably why "they" tell you to have 6 months of your take-home pay saved up.
