I know what you mean. A lot of these shows are like train wrecks that you just can't stop watching. They would make good satires. Too bad they're not supposed to be satires!
I've never heard of Surf the Channel. I'll look at it later today!
Yay, debates! LOL. Hey, I like House and Bones. And yeah, we know House is a jerk. That's what makes him funny. And actually, I saw the special features on one of the DVD sets, and they actually research the stuff they use in their shows and they have a real doctor consultant person to help them out.
And for Bones, to really understand her, you have to see it from the very beginning. It's not that she's trying to make that woman feel horrible or rub it in her face, her brain just works differently than most other people's. She sees everything from an anthropological (brain only) viewpoint, not neccessarily the normal viewpoint, if that makes sense. LOL, she can't even get the normal cliches and puns right! That's why Booth's there to help her out. :) Of course, it's not as good now with Zack gone.
I like ER, too, but I don't watch it as often as these two. Not sure why.
I'm sure people could find a bone to pick with ER, too. (What a horrible pun..."bone to pick"...) One of its main problems is the way it has the patient's family members observing surgical procedures in the trauma rooms. They're always like, "What's happening? What's going on?" In a real ER, they wouldn't be allowed in. They're even around for thoracotomies, which involve spreading the ribs to expose the heart. Noooo way that would happen. That's the one thing about ER that jeopardizes its credibility.
I wasn't impressed by the episodes of House and Bones that I saw, but maybe you're right--maybe you have to watch them from the beginning. What's their explanation for why House became a doctor if he hates people so much? He makes me sad.
When it comes to TV shows, though, to each her own. There are probably problems with any show--and it ends up just being an issue of personal preference.
For House, it's implied (Well, Wilson says it all the time) that House likes the puzzle. He's like a little obnoxious kid, he only does the cases he finds interesting, and are complex puzzles that he can solve. And yeah, it does help to start from the beginning. (Also, the earlier shows are WAY better.)
Yeah, I agree that it comes down to personal preference. :)
Maybe I'll watch one of the earlier ones, then, and see what I think! I might like it more. I remember liking House at one point.
It's interesting to think of the reasons why some people like certain shows and others don't. I know a lot of people dislike medical dramas in general. I do hate it when people die on ER.
Yeah, to each her own. I hope I didn't offend you!

If you like Hulu, try Surf the Channel. It's even better.
