Whoa, that's a significant find! If the site really is old enough to be the missing Viking settlement, and it hasn't been touched since then, it'll be a great storehouse of information.
Good to hear about work, and hopefully the garden is insane in a good way?
My inner archaeology geek cannot wait to hear more about this find. So. Cool. :)
The garden is mostly insane in a good way. I badly need to dig potatoes, and to find 101 new and interesting uses for beets. I seriously don't know what I was thinking when I planted all these beets. (Actually, I was likely thinking that most of them would not come up, which is what usually happens...and then, they all came up, and they are all turning out to be GIANT. Yikes.)
Oh yay on the beets! I only planted a small number, just to try it out, and mine ended up being larger than expected as well! I ended up roasting them and eating them over a couple of meals, but if I'd had more I would have pickled them. And cooked up more. Hmm, perhaps I'd better buy some more beets for eating, and remember to plant more next year :)
If I had any faith that the beets would arrive in good condition, I would certainly send some your way. I will have to read up on Wood Quay...when I was taking archaeology courses, they were all biblical/Israel-related. Fun at the time, but now I wish that we'd had more archaeology and perhaps a bit less Biblical Archaeology.
