In my view, the writer of a story has a certain insight into her own work, specific to being its writer, but that doesn't give her priority or even more credibility than her readers. Outside of crack!fic I'm not one of the "if-you-see-it-it's-there" people (I need in-text support), but should our interpretations of Ian differ, totally no big. If you convince me your version is plausible, I'll gladly read all about him. Because ITA: not enough Ian fic. Happy writing!
