What should we call JKR's new play "The Cursed Child" or her screenplay "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"? Are they sequels or prequels?

The one thing we (rhetorically, since I don't believe anyone here's really muddled) need to know is "Are those official stories - the HP books, the short WHOO-HOO BROOMSTICK CHASE! prequel and this new thing all taking place in the same universe?" Or is this new thing an "elseworlds" tale where something happens to make it incompatable with "canon" (e.g. Harry sorts into Hufflepuff)? No? And it takes place when Harry's still young? Then it is a @&$£ing prequel!

And I agree with that post on the forum that Fantastic Beasts qualifies as a Spin-Off. Think what "Pinky & The Brain" is to "Animaniacs".

I suppose Fantastic Beasts is a prequel in the sense that it takes place well before the main body of HP canon (1920s, isn't it?), but not a direct one.

Was it Snitchseeker where I saw the explanation that Cursed Child was not a prequel because, technically, it took place between the first and second chapters of PS/SS, and not actually before the beginning...?

I'm not sure. I think there's a bunch of misinformation going around about the Cursed Child. I saw one article that mentioned James/Snape and Lily were going to somehow be included. Which almost makes sense because on Pottermore it says that Vernon despised James, which made him hate Harry. So maybe there are flashbacks or something. Which would make it a Prequel. Who knows?
