Deathly Hallows Oscar Snub Part Two ~ Good Company

Jan 27, 2012 08:39

I've got a bunch of pesky trolls commenting on my previous Livejournal post saying that the Oscars are somehow infallible and sacred, and that the Academy gets the last word on Deathly Hallows. Also that critics and fans, who are merely uncultured popcorn-eaters and mindless rabble, don't really know what makes a good movie ( Read more... )

Meh. I couldn't care less about the Oscars, and I don't believe Alan cares much either. It's just a huge farce. I think Alan is the type of person who feels his best reward comes from knowing he did the best job he could on anything he's in.

If it's good enough for the estimable Mr. Rickman, it's good enough for me.

That's true, Dan Radcliffe said the same thing about AR a few weeks ago.

Re: Peter Lorre...Claude Rains was nominated but did not win for the role of Captain Reynaud in the same film. (And three other times - he should also be in that list, he never won either).

Good point about Claude Rains! He was in Notorious, too - so good!

I sent an email about Alan Rickman to the man who runs the Snub list, and he wrote back to me.

I will definitely add him to the long list. Thanks for your suggestions!

My "suggestion" was for AMC to have an Alan Rickman film festival some weekend. :)

If you know of other names that should be included just drop him a line. I should have pointed out that Christian Bale is still on the list although he won last year.

"Notorious" was another of Claude Rains' nominations. :-)

Oh, okay! That's such a strange movie, to have Claude Rains paired with Ingrid Bergman. I read somewhere that he had to wear platform shoes in every scene because Bergman and Cary Grant were so much taller. I never would have guessed that from watching the movie.

Then there are those actors who should have been ignored because they were horrible actors who eventually got an Oscar because they were so popular with their fans, ie John Wayne for True Grit. I loved John Wayne, but when I go back and watch his old films, I realize that he really was a horrible actor. There are some of those on your list like Rock Hudson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Burt Reynolds, and Peter Sellers. Large fan bases, but pretty poor actors when you go back and look at their films.

I actually like Arnold in The Terminator movies because his delivery is always robotic, LOL, and I think Peter Sellers is sort of a genius (although he reminds me of Andy Kaufman because he also seems a little insane). Rock Hudson is good in some of his movies - I like Tobruk, the war movie. Burt Reynolds was funny in Smokey and the Bandit, but he was just hanging out with his best friends and playing himself.

So, okay--we just found out "Anonymous" of the misogynist insult really is a Troll with nothing valid to say. And, yeah--mentally ill. Very sad ( ... )

I made them all go bye-bye for today. They can get back on their little troll train and go home. It's funny that their feelings are hurt because I won't let them bark insults at us while ordering us to change the subject. My God.

I do find the nomination process more interesting than the awards. I was trying to recall if I even watched the awards show last year, and I don't think I did. Billy Crystal is back this year, and I love him, but I think I'll just re-watch Sense and Sensibility that night, LOL.

The "Anonymous" brigade has demonstrated a couple of things quite well, though--albeit I'm sure the irony sailed right over their heads.

For one, what a lovely display of actual misogyny. There's been all the tossing around of that word by the Trolls who don't understand the definition, but in steps someone to show the real deal in action. A woman has an opinion at variance with a man's? Why, call her a sexual slur, of course! That should take care of any more opinions from her!

And the Anonymous Brigade that keeps following every single post you make and simply cannot shut up about what you can and cannot post on your own blog because they hate your ideas and you....? Why, I believe we all just have been shown what actual stalking looks like.

What a pack of morons.
