He should have gotten a supporting actor Oscar nom (and award) for Hans Gruber to start it all off.

We were watching a movie with Geraldine Page who is a bit similar to AR in that she never got an Oscar until The Trip to Bountiful in her old age. That would have made me feel better except that Page was nominated over and over again, even a Bafta for Sweet Bird of Youth!
She was also nominated over and over for Golden Globe awards, and won a bunch of Emmys.
What is similar about her is that she's not everyone's favorite actress, and she's not classically beautiful. Her voice is also a bit unusual. So why did other actors respect her so much, yet ignore Alan Rickman? I really don't get it at all. Why don't they take him seriously? Or do they just assume that he's already won a bunch of awards?

But I think the lesson learned so far is that maybe it's too soon in modern memory for these groups to nominate still another wizard in a supporting role. And people like to nominate someone they think is going to win, and not someone who will be fifth choice.

Being a Brit, I am ashamed of BAFTA right now too. Alan is a wonderful actor and did a wonderful job bringing Snape to life.

Anonymous: Rickman had plenty of fans before HP. It's just that he has millions more because of Snape. And your point is?
