Well, the Bafta Award Nominations were announced and Alan Rickman was not on the short list for Best Supporting Actor.
*sigh*

I'm sickened. Poor Alan deserved a nomination.

It's hard too because he probably had a better chance at a Bafta from his own country than an Oscar here. But I still have irrational hope that all this Oscar Buzz trending on Twitter plus buzz from the acting community about "Seminar" might help him with the Oscar community.

Surely Alan isn't the Rodney Dangerfield of the acting community -- he get's no respect????? I just don't get it . . .

He should have gotten a supporting actor Oscar nom (and award) for Hans Gruber to start it all off.

My husband keeps trying to make me feel better about this (although I'm not actually sitting around pouting, LOL).

We were watching a movie with Geraldine Page who is a bit similar to AR in that she never got an Oscar until The Trip to Bountiful in her old age. That would have made me feel better except that Page was nominated over and over again, even a Bafta for Sweet Bird of Youth!

She was also nominated over and over for Golden Globe awards, and won a bunch of Emmys.

What is similar about her is that she's not everyone's favorite actress, and she's not classically beautiful. Her voice is also a bit unusual. So why did other actors respect her so much, yet ignore Alan Rickman? I really don't get it at all. Why don't they take him seriously? Or do they just assume that he's already won a bunch of awards?

lurve the icon. I noticed the scarf while watching the video. It easily ranks as one of his best! Teh man should get a special achievement award for wearing scarves!

Yes, it's a screenshot from this video, for those who haven't seen it. :)

It's the genre, not the actor exhpfan January 18 2012, 16:33:42 UTC
I haven't seen either of the two final Harry Potter movies, so I can't comment on Rickman's acting ability. Regardless, I did try to warn all of the Rickman fans that Fantasy Genre movies seldom get any recognition from either the Baftas or the Oscars except for things like special effects, costumes, or sound tract. The actors and directors are usually ignored. It looks like history is about to repeat itself.

And you were absolutely right, apparently. However with Lord of the Rings, both Bafta and Oscar voters gave Ian McKellen a nomination for playing Gandalf. And dang, he was really good - I was just watching Two Towers and wishing he could have played Dumbledore!

But I think the lesson learned so far is that maybe it's too soon in modern memory for these groups to nominate still another wizard in a supporting role. And people like to nominate someone they think is going to win, and not someone who will be fifth choice.

Hopefully Alan doesn't need an award to know how amazing we think he is. I am fed up that the Harry Potter movies have been continually shafted in the awards department.

Being a Brit, I am ashamed of BAFTA right now too. Alan is a wonderful actor and did a wonderful job bringing Snape to life.

Well he may have appreciated you more if you had lined up to be his fans in the likes of 'Robin, Prince of Theives', 'Quigley, Down Under', or even 'Die Hard'. You have all seen these films haven't you? As diehard Alan Rickman fans you must love how well he does evil.

Spikesbint: I was surprised by the Baftas, too, but at least they gave HP an award for the entire series last year. Maybe Oscar will honor them, too, in ten years or so, when they look back and come to their senses.

Anonymous: Rickman had plenty of fans before HP. It's just that he has millions more because of Snape. And your point is?
