The Truth Is A Beautiful and Terrible Thing

Jul 14, 2011 16:38

Sometimes Truth is terrible when people have been in denial for so many years. :)

But it can be beautiful for people who saw it all along.

princessofsnark has written the ultimate guide for those who still can't accept Snape's actions in the books as those of a spy whose adult life was spent protecting Harry.

I think there's a good number of Haters who are that way because they misread the novels for years ( ... )

The Snaters love to make stupid remarks - yuck, yuck, I'm superior to you because you must hate Harry and all children and you must love terrorists! Let me tell you how to read! Let me tell you what your fandom should be! Let me tell you how you should interpret Snape, and it better be negative enough or I'll get you into trouble. Basic bullying 101.

But the ironic twist is that they are in the corner now, trapped by their own slime on the floor. *LOL*

It's one thing if they underestimate a Snape group on one forum. But how can they prove that millions of fans worldwide are wrong about Snape? Why are journalists weeping at showings of the movie? Why did WB make Snape the focus, with JKR's obvious consent?

Nah--my favorite demand is for the canon (variously spelled 'cannon,' by some of the more pitiful cases), usually from the same people who are simply making stuff up or quoting their buddies' fanfiction. You can quote pages from the novels and still get the demand for canon.....Unfortunately, on one forum inhabited by a number of these, one cannot reply appropriately: ie, read the f***ing books._

I suppose so many of them have invested so much time in being wrong that they simply can't do anything but maintain their errors, no matter how silly they look in doing so.

.See anyone who has argued that Snape's love for Lily was not devotion, but rather stalking.

Or that introducing (rather, revealing) this softness ruined the character or the story. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and preferences, of course, but I really don't get that reaction. If anything it made me love him more.

If people like it, we should make sure it gets on Urban Dictionary.

Why are you so obsessed with Snape-haters? Just ignore them. I once got almost banned from CoS for daring to criticize JKR's writing and ... I simply don't go there anymore. Trying to argue on the internet is a pointless endeavor. You need to find like-minded people and have a constructive discussion with them, not try to diminish those who will never be on the same wave-length as you.

And why do you care whether or not we're "obsessed" with the Snaters? ;)

As a point of fact, we're not arguing with the Snaters: we're just mocking them, with great enjoyment. It's been a long 10 years or so with them (a long history not worth going into right here, right now), and we are rather happy to see the wreckage of their nastiness.

Trying to argue on the internet is a pointless endeavor.

Aw, thank you for your concern. I will just roll over now and play dead, now that I know you find it pointless. Come on friends! Some unknown person finds our discussion pointless! Surrender and walk away!

NOT. And now here's some advice from me - don't tell me what to do on my own Livejournal.

Just "ignore them"?They find us, not the other way around. They are so bored when they can't get in to bash us that they lurk here all the time. ETA: And on the forums, when we put them on ignore, they complain that we don't respond to their own "pointless" posts, and get the Mods on our tails ( ... )

It's funny Stan that you describe yourself in your User Info as pretty much a professional lurker, but you post to "stay involved."

Aw, that's so . . . sad (if it's even true).

You should make some like-minded friends who are real, as I have, then you wouldn't have to just lurk around and talk to strangers.

"Snaters" (rhymes with "Taters"

Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew?

Indeed! LOL

Ew no, I think they'd ruin the stew. "It's not thick enough." "It's too thick." "Too much salt." "Not enough salt." "The meat's tough." "It's too tender, it all fell apart." "This piece of carrot is a bully and croooool!!" "And it wants to poison my toad."

Besides, I don't think I'd like a stew full of weiners.... (or is that whiners?)

It was a beautiful piece; too bad it can't be published where it'll do the most good.

And I suppose my journey to Hogsmeade is set back another couple hundred posts -- I'm 9 posts away from 400 on A Certain Forum, but I had the bad taste to contrast Sev's treatment of the unconscious Sirius in PoA with Sirius' treatment of an unconscious Sev. Comparing the actions of Marauders, you know, even though it illustrated the basic humanity in Snape vs. the lack of same in Sirius unless he liked you... I thought it was well within the realm of character analysis, but apparently in my Blatant Snape Worship I was wrong...
