So, what's next? "Twinkle, twinkle, little vamp"?

I'll admit to having a soft spot for vampires with actual emotions (scientifically speaking, it's a more probable outcome though mythology claims otherwise), but would you fall for a modern teen if you had centuries under your belt?

I didn't think so.

I'm starting to miss Anne Rice too. LOL

Love the video. It is spot on.
Even in the Underworld series, they don't attack humans or drink
their blood. When did vampires become so cute and cuddly.
Along with Count Chocula and The Count, they have forgotten the Hilarious House
of Frightenstein, the Adams family and the Munsters.

That's true - I feel that we are coming full circle back to the seventies when haunted houses and eccentric scary people were standard fare on television. I'm not complaining because I love it. :) But except for Buffy, most vampire stories don't appeal to me.

I miss Anne Rice too! *runs to re-read Interview with the Vampire*
Buffy really appealed to me, it had its strokes of brilliance, but Twilight?! I read the first book and parts of the fourth... That was totally the WORST writing and story I have ever encountered, sorry. And the movie - don't let me start about the movie...
I mean, I understand what an 11-12-13 year old girl might like in the story, the psychological tricks the author uses to appeal to young teens are quite obvious and cliche, but the popularity of this series is really getting out of hand. I've read posts by teenage girls saying that they don't want to have a boyfriend - ever! - because they want Edward... I don't remember anything quite like that taking place in the Harry Potter fandom, even among the most obsessed of us, LOL.
Anyway, I got carried away - I just love slandering Twilight :D

I'm not a Twilight fan and I totally understand why people make fun of it. On the other hand, much of it reads like a really good romance novel, so I see the appeal especially to young girls. It's the plot that makes me a bit crazy because Edward just takes over Bella's life in a dangerous way. And there's no downside to being a Vampire, even in terms of the human soul, and that really bothers me. In HP and Buffy, having a complete soul is what makes someone human and getting a new one requires sacrifice and suffering. That's where Meyer lost me because Bella immediately wanted to die and reach a more perfect state as a Vampire. And who wouldn't? They have super powers, wealth, good cars, and beauty. It's such a shallow message - ack.

The only way to read Twilight is just as pure escapism without any deep message. I never made it through the second book, but I read a synopsis of the final book and couldn't quite believe the plot.

I've never gotten into vampire stories much, except for early Ann Rice, which I loved as a teen. But somehow, once we got into the millenia-old backstory in Egypt, I lost interest...or maybe I got too old, LOL.

And The Count is great, of course.

I could never get into Ann Rice, although I tried.

But The Count ~ I always loved him! *LOL* :)

That's great to know about The Vampire Diaries. Thanks for the information and I'll suggest those to my daughter, although it seems to me she may have read some of them in high school because the author's name seems familiar.

You were the first person I recall talking about the Charlaine Harris books, too, and now they've been re-released in the U.S. because of the True Blood TV series. My daughter just read some of them and she's passing them on to me when she gets home for Fall Break.
