JavaJuice under seige!!!

There's a guy who hangs out downtown who has Tourette's, and I usually don't have a problem with him, but JavaJuice is a really quiet place, and unfortunately he's ticcing pretty damn badly right now. I've never even seen him in here before...he's usually at the Tobacco Bowl. Oddly enough, the noise and smoke at the Bowl doesn't seem to bother him ( Read more... )

I don't have a LJ account so I guess I'll just be anonymous comment girl until I do. I finished WWZ about a week ago and I NEED to know what you think. I had a talk with Duff about it but we know each other well enough now that we already knew what the others opinions would be.

Hi Laura!! *waves*
I love this book. It's got to be one of the most believable works of fiction since House of Leaves. Max Brooks has a real talent for creating a feeling and setting a tone through creative characterization. Are you guys stockpiling water yet? :)

We're not stockpiling water yet but we have had a few chats about our plans. ;) We're going to my parents farm and building a wall around their land...yada yada. Anyway, I loved the format he used to tell the story. I wonder how long it took him to come up with all the characters and their personal experiences and views. So unique and creative! I've tried to start House of Leaves a few times...can't get into it yet.

I "randomly" mentioned to Gabe that I really want to start putting together our emergency survival kit :)...I've gotten interested in general survival knowledge lately, too...reading up on how to survive in the wilderness, which plants are edible, basic first aid, etc. etc.
I don't know where he came up with those characters, but you're right: he's one of the best character development non-fantasy fiction authors I've ever read. *nods emphatically*

What about Zephyr copies? Do they take Mac format?

No. *cries* Noplace in town that lets you bring in your own files takes Mac format. Zephyr has designers that are conversant with Macs...indeed, many of them use Macs at home, according to the lady I spoke to...but they don't use them at work, and they charge insane "design fees" because I'm not allowed to just print out my design...they have to make it for me or something. Dumbheads. :(

Have you tried Alpha Copies for your invites?
Real nice people and great store with free parking.
They are very helpful and give you 50% off your programs if you do your invites with them.

Hmmmmm....well, we were just going to make them ourselves; the print place is just for, you know, printing them out. But I can look into it. Anything to make the job a bit easier without taking too many of our precious pennies is a good thing!
