Two of my housemates and I would be so SO willing to help give Smudge a new home but unfortunately our other housemate is allergic to cats. Best of luck!

Sorry, m'dear. I don't really know anyone in Montreal. :( But best of luck finding a new home for him!

I've asked my friends in Montreal if they know anyone who wants a cat. I'll let you know if they do. :)

Did you find someone? My friends could take it if you think it would get along with another cat (who is deaf and has a breathing problem). Otherwise, they say they'll keep an ear out.

I might have someone lined up, but they're out of town until next weekend so I won't know for sure until then.

Thank you so much, and I may take you up on your friends' really generous offer! Smudge should be fine if the other cat is not overly aggressive, as he's lived nicely with my other cats for several years now.

I wish you were closer; I'd think about taking Smudge. We do have one cat already but she's always been interested in neighborhood cats, in a curious, friendly way. If Smudge were game, Madison might be an eventual buddy. Not sure about crossing the border with an animal, either. How old is Smudge?

Just breaking in to say that crossing the border with a cat is no big deal -- my late cat and I drove back and forth from Toronto to the states many, many times. If you're driving, all you need is a rabies vaccination certificate, and I've never once had anyone actually ask to see it. If you're flying, you need a health certificate from a vet issued within I think ten days of departure certifying that the animal is fit to fly -- that's true for flying within the States as well, it doesn't have to do with crossing the border. The one thing to be careful of is, weirdly, cat food. It's simplest not to try crossing the border with pet food in the car at all, but if you do, crossing into the States, you want food that was imported from the States originally, and it should be in its official bag that says so, not in tupperware or something.

Ratherastory, sorry I'm full up on cats and too far away. I hope Smudge finds a good home!

Yeah, no worries, I didn't think that 99% of my fandom friends would be close enough, but word-of-mouth helps sometimes, you know?

I'm going to keep looking.

Smudge is 13 or 14, near as any of us can tell. I have no exact birth records or anything for him. He did get along (sort of) with my other cats. Mostly they just avoided each other when the space was big enough to accommodate that sort of thing.

(Where do you live? You don't have to say it in public, I'm just curious.)
