So, in a fit of madness, I've decided to take an AU prompt for one of my exchanges. I know, I know, I never write AU, and the worst part is that I know NOTHING about the kind of AU my prompter wants, and yet it piqued my interest and I WANT IT ( Read more... )

Ras, Scurvy is a vitamin C defiency.
It was experienced by British sailors at one time until they started carrying limes as cargo or food supplies on their ships. They found out eating the limes kept them from getting scurvy on long trips at sea. That's why we call the Brits "Limeys".

I know what it is, but thanks! What I was researching was specific symptoms of advanced cases of scurvy: what it would look like, the progression of the disease, how long it would take someone to die from it, etc.

Scurvy wasn't in the prompt per se, but the prompt inevitably led me to think of scurvy and how I could inflict it on the characters over the course of the story. Because I'm twisted that way.
