The Animal Man run of Grant Morrison (pencils by Chas Truog and others, inks by Doug Hazlewood and others) is easily the most meta superhero comic I've ever read. It's one of the most meta comics I've ever read, superhero genre or not. Yeah, that's good stuff, though I'd only read the first couple of issues. Now that DC is finally collecting the remainder of it, I'll be able to read the rest. Very cool. :)

What I really enjoyed is how well the elements that seemed totally weird at first fit together eventually (though still in a weird story), like he really planned his arc, at least some of the more important meta stuff, quite thoroughly, working towards its climax. A bit like those matching timetravel episodes in Babylon 5, where the two parts of the whole story are seasons apart. And it's not just with the timetravel part of the story here.
