Ω Nineteen - We're So Young

Nov 29, 2010 17:33

[Ladies and Gentlemen, to whom it may concern, Ryan Tubridy, Peylix looks into the camera and looks irritably into the camera.] Rassilon! [He sighs, be patient, ok? He continues with some affection, if long suffering patience.] I appreciate you're trying to cheer me up, but taking me away right before class? Like Cardinal Luvis doesn't have enough ( Read more... )

Um...Rassilon isn't here, and he didn't take you away...

But you won't get in trouble for not going to class! Or end up in the Death Zone!

...so what happened that you need to be cheered up?

[sarcasm.] Oh, fantastic, I'm so relieved.

Who are you?

Adric. And from the way you're talking, I think we haven't met yet.

Adric. [Considers the implication of what he's saying, frowns. He seems to be implying time travel.

A certainty that they will meet, in such a way that implies that to him they already have.

Whether or not the boy is telling the truth, or one of the Cardinals have sent him to him as a test, using a boy this young to disarm him somehow, doesn't matter, this conversation has suddenly become dangerous.

There's a moment of searching of Adric's face, before he almost regretfully severs the connection and retroactively makes all this private.]

I'm pretty sure you won't miss class. The whole traveling back and forth through time thing sort of nullifies that. [ Who cares what's happening, at least she can be specific. ]

[No response, time travel is illegal on Gallifrey thanks.]

[ Like that'll stop her. ] The Admiral can bring you here from any time he likes, and he can send you back to any time he likes. That's the only reason I agreed to come, because he promised I wouldn't miss any class.

[Weird pang of familiarity here. He looks like Omega, before... Oh Rassilon, what's going on now...]

Peylix?

[Looks at him with some guarded curiosity for a few moments before speaking.] Yes?

[He lifts up his hat.] I'm the Doctor. I'm a Gallifreyan from your future...

[And this is too good an opportunity to pass up.] Save a bit of your hair and put it on your desk. It may be important. Have you been informed of where you are?

[He visibly tenses at the 'from your future', are you people trying to get him killed? Note to self: next time actually listen to Rassilon? He sighs in resignation.] You're Adric's traveling companion. [Yes, it's that way round, dammit!]

Why? Bioexperiment? [It's nothing new, with Rassilon around, he's lucky he isn't bald. In response to his question, out comes a highly sceptical:] Hmm.

[Narvin makes an "oh fuck, a flood" face before putting on a professional expression and turning on his communicator]

This is Councillor Narvin. Cardinal Luvis will not be expecting you in his class. Consider yourself on an educational expedition for the next day and all your Academy obligations suspended.

[Best to take these things slowly. Maybe the truth can come at a later time.]

[Councilor Narvin? Never heard of him. Rassilon keeps up with these things and Peylix by osmosis so he ought to have heard of him, so he's really no clue of what make of it, especially in light of his previous communications about time travel. He's got no reason to disbelieve him, he doesn't always listen to Rass, his paper a case in point, but the idea that he's been whisked away because of a school trip is damned inconvenient and he can help the muttered remark.] I need my results... [louder] To what end is this expedition to serve my education? [Well, you've got to pick your battles, with the cardinals.]

[Narvin isn't a teacher and doesn't know the first thing about pedagogy, but he does remember his own teachers at the Academy mostly being opaque and unhelpful whenever they were asked questions. And he can do opaque and unhelpful.]

Determining the purpose of the expedition is part of the lesson.

[Peylix's tone turns light.] Trapping me into saying something I shouldn't, perhaps? [He lets his tone drop, serious and hard.] Tell me what you've done with my friend, sir.
