My guess is, if that's true, members of the team either knew she was being raped and did nothing, or encouraged it to happen. So then they'd keep quiet for fear of being charged with... what? I don't think you can be imprisoned in this state for failing to stop a crime. Be nice if you could.

Your friend's conversation reminds me of a really sickening op-ed article in the Stanford Daily that basically exonerated the players, because the writer went to high school with the sister of one of the players and she just knew her brother wouldn't do that. What cracked me up was how Durham had "gang initiation week" going on, and the players' lives were threatened. See, I had no idea our gangs were recruiting, or I would have tried out.
