There are some great David Letterman interviews with Tom Waits. This one was done after the release of "Alice" and "Blood Money". As reclusive as Tom Waits is, he is a very funny and witty guy in person.

i read his collection of interviews just recently, titled "Innocent When You Dream". ah great stuff indeed...
the best one was when the interviewer asked him what did he fear most, he replied that he's got one fear - that he'd be walking down a street in LA somewhere, and a manhole would be open and he'd fall into it. and there'd be 500 unemployed bossa nova musicians inside, and they'd "Boy from Ipanema" him to death. he added that it hasn't happened yet, hehe.
or "i'd rather have a full bottle in front of me, than a full frontal lobotomy"
or, "champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends"

oh that second qoute about a full bottle instead of a full frontal lobotomy, Tom T-Bone Stankus mentioned it in his song "Existential Blues". I always thought it was just his lyrics, but turns out he got it from Tom Waits.
