Dinah's heard of Killer Shark, from her Mom's tales of the Justice Society, but she's only heard of him, and can't actually bring any stories about him to mind. An old enemy of the Blackhawk team of fighter pilots, he's as old as some of her uncles and supposedly as retired. This doesn't appear to be the case ( Read more... )

One of the good things about being part of a team is that you get more practice on things you can't on your own. Like using your power ring to fly somewhere with two passengers coming along. Whenever he's tried that before, the passengers arrive all right, but with a bad case of airsickness too. But this time it worked out fine, so hey, why mention it?

Besides, they arrive right in time to stop a high-powered raid on Kord Industries by--.

--Killer Shark?

Oh, come on.

Dinah kind of likes flying by big green bubble. It reminds her of Uncle Alan, but also makes her feel very much like The Black Canary, rather than just Dinah.

And she loves the extra drama they get for flying in with a green halo.

"We're the Justice League," she says, knowing she'll never get tired of saying that. "You're a joke.

"And believe me, it hurts when we laugh."

"Big talk." (Yep, this guy definitely never went up against the Justice Society's Canary) "What're you going to do, cutie? Blonde me to death?"

Killer Shark and his goons raise their prototype weapons. Dinah takes a deep breath to show them what blondes can do.

...and there's a flash of red, and suddenly Dinah is being cradled in a bridal carry by tyhe Flash.

"You OK?" he asks, earnestly.

"OK?" Dinah repeats, incredulously.

"I had my sonic blast completely ready. This is the ninth time the men on this team have gone out of their way to protect me.

"I have only one request. Will you knock it off?!"

She really really wants to hit someone.

Yeah, this is one time that Green Lantern is going to leave a teammate to deal with a problem. Better Flash than him.

"I'll go get the cops," GL offers. The Flash offers to race him, but GL isn't about to help him get out of trouble that easy.

It takes Gotham's Finest no time at all to take custody of Killer Shark and his gang, and it looks like KS's comeback has reached its ignominious end. But just as the police start hustling the villains into a reinforced police van, KS sees his chance....

Great. The second Dinah gets angry and the boys just dismiss her and try to do something else. So neither of them notice Killer Shark wresting free of the police and making a go of it.

Fortunately for them, the Black Canary is on the case with a full on haymaker punch that knocks the Shark out cold.

(That felt good.)

"I promise you," she continues, flexing her knuckles, "the next time one of you chauvinist dorks knocks me out of action..."
