I'm two episodes away from the end of the anime and I seriously need someone to squee with. Pleeese? I'd especially like to hear from anybody who has read the manga since I've just started reading that and I'm really curious about if, and how, the two differ

Right here! Actually, CCS was my first fandom and my first anime. I love it still, though I haven't actually read any fanfic in years. I've read all the manga (got 'em all too, should you wish to borrow some...), and yes, the anime deviates from the anime. I don't want to spoil you, so for now I'll just say that I prefer the manga.
