21 Years

My father died 21 years ago today. That means I have lived three-fourths of my life remembering him rather than experiencing him directly. It's hard to face those 'anniversaries' but yet they are important to recognize. It is part of who you are and who you will become - just like you say....

Thanks - the anniversary has tended toward fond remembrances rather than profound feelings of loss in recent years. It still hits sometimes, but time changes things even if it doesn't "fix" them.

The thing that always comes to mind when I think of your dad was saying "Hi" to him when he was really sick and getting into bed with the assistance of your mom and my dad. My mom kind of shooed me off with a "Not right now" sort of remark, but then I heard a "Hi, Jess." All those years later I still remember that smile.

Wow, Jess - I never knew about that. Thanks for sharing! It helps to have friends that remember Dad, and that you remember him so well - you hadn't quite turned five when he died - continues to impress me. I'll never forget the dinosaur soaps you brought me to cheer me up a whole drinking age ago. Thanks, boss. Let's get you married off now! :D>
